Nearly New Shop
The Nearly New Shop is a Tarrytown institution, having operated continuously in the same charming Victorian house at 35 South Broadway for 67 years. The 100-member Junior League of Westchester-on-Hudson (JFWOH), a women’s service organization committed to improving our local communities, operates this women’s resale shop. Proceeds from the shop fund projects in the rivertowns and part of Rockland County. Locally, the renovation of the Town Hall Theater in Irvington, the Open Door Medical Center and Career Closet are just a few examples of the League’s high-profile past projects.
Last year, the resale shop, which had its quarters on the street level, moved downstairs, and the gift shop, Whimsies, moved in. The Nearly New Shop continues its mission: to sell better quality women’s clothing and accessories in a more compact, but no less elegant space. Currently, Birgit Weber, a Junior League member, is the manager of the shop.
The Nearly New Shop relies upon donations of current, seasonal women’s clothing from its members and local community, and it, in turn, offers great bargains. It’s a good feeling to know that the money spent on a “nearly new” designer outfit is going to valuable local causes that contribute to the quality of life in our rivertowns. While it may be a little harder to see on Broadway, the Nearly New Shop (631-2629) is a Tarrytown gem worth finding.
