Douglas Halstead, 81

Douglas C. Halstead, who was born in Irvington, passed away peacefully October 17 while watching the New York Yankees playoff game. He was 81.

The youngest of seven children, Mr. Halstead married Constance (Kirby) September 28, 1952 at St Theresa’s Church in Tarrytown, and they started a beautiful life together raising five children. He was employed for many years with Emmadine and Dellwood Dairies and upon his retirement from the milk industry, he launched his own business, Better Pool Service.

He had many interests, especially sports, and played traveling, exhibition softball in the position of catcher with the four-man team “King and His Court.” He was a huge Yankee and Giant fan and loved playing golf.

Louis Giampiccolo, Sr., 81

Louis Giampiccolo Sr. a lifelong resident of Tarrytown, died October 1. He was 81.

He was born in North Tarrytown and attended Tarrytown schools, graduating from Washington Irving High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged in 1952. He was also a member of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars. In 1956, he married the former Wilma Whiteman of Guilford CT.

He owned M&L Cleaners on Orchard Street in Tarrytown and was president of the Tarrytown Merchants Association under Urban Renewal to revitalize the Orchard Street area, in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was chairman of the Tarrytown Democratic Party and in 1969 ran for supervisor of the Town of Greenburgh. In 1988, he retired as deputy commissioner of public works for the Town of Greenburgh.
