Expectations High for Sleepy Hollow Winter Sports Teams

Great expectations are riding high for the winter sports teams at Sleepy Hollow High School.

Last year, the boys basketball team had a tough season as they lost several players, but with a lot of returning players this year, the team should bounce back and play very well. Sleepy Hollow senior Bobby Smalls has high hopes for the 2009-2010 year.

“I think we should do better than last year. We are working very hard and have more skill on the court,” Smalls said.

The team has shown great promise in the first few games with Justin Best, Jonathan Martin and others propelling the Horsemen to an encouraging start. The team has demonstrated a strong sense of unity, and is only improving.

The wrestling team performed well a year ago and have a lot of talented grapplers returning for another exciting year. Coach Tompkins has his wrestlers energized and eager to start wrestling. Seniors Jay Concepcion, Pete Delmonaco, and Edison Tenesaca are among those ready to rumble.

The indoor track team lost some talented competitors in Genevieve Ruppel and Nick Carraro, but still has a lot of dedicated members who are ready to compete at a high level, such as Alex Berger, and Gabby Cellante.

The girls basketball team had a competitive season last year and have many players returning, all of whom hope to make significant contributions to the team’s success. Senior Tauress Campbell has brought a sense of leadership to the team, and sophomore Jamie Bucci has provided a great spark.
