Celia E. Wilkinson, 97
Celia E. Wilkinson, a lifelong resident of Tarrytown, died March 9. She was 97.
Mrs. Wilkinson was born in Tarrytown on July 28, 1912 and graduated from Washington Irving High School. Celia worked as a bookkeeper at General Motors for 35 years. She was an active parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, where she was a member of St. Ann’s Sodality. She was also a member of the Tarrytown Seniors.
John DelCarpine, 74
John DelCarpine, a longtime resident of Tarrytown, died March 1 at his home. He was 74.
Mr. DelCarpine moved to Tarrytown in May1964 when he married his beloved wife, Ada Malandrino. He was very active in local civic organizations. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus St. Elmo Council 318, Past Vice President of ITALO, and member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Sleepy Hollow. He was also an active member of the Jefferson Park Boys Club throughout his life.
After his discharge from the Army, Mr. DelCarpine became a chef. He was well known for his work at Malandrino’s Deli & Restaurant on Beekman Avenue, the Greenburgh Nutrition Program (Meals on Wheels), and at various church events, like the annual bazaar and spaghetti dinners. He also retired from General Motors in 1990.
Russell DiBlasi, 65
Russell J. DiBlasi, a former Tarrytown resident, died March 4 in Arizona. He was 65.
Mr. DiBlasi graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School ad NYU College of Engineering. He had been a civil engineer with Lucent Technologies in Morristown, New Jersey.
Stephen Pesick, 75
Stephen Pesick, a longtime Irvington resident, died March 7. He was 75.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and went on to have a 24-year career with the City of White Plains Police Department. He retired as a detective. He was a member of the White Plains PBA.
On November 12, 1960, he married Margaret Kolarich in Holy Cross Church in North Tarrytown.
William L. Johnson
William L. Johnson, a former trustee in the Village of Irvington, died February 12 in Easton, Maryland.
Mr. Johnson was the former general counsel of the Otis Elevator Company. After graduating from Princeton, he served in the Marines in Korea, rising to captain. Mr. Johnson lived for more than 30 years in Irvington. He served several terms as village trustee, as well as on the board of Phelps Hospital, the Parents Association of the Masters School, and as President of the Underwood Club in the Adirondacks.
Eve Gross, 92
Eve Gross, a resident of Sleepy Hollow, died March 10 after a long illness with Alzheimer’s. She was 92.
She was born in Peekskill. Shortly after, her family moved to North Tarrytown where she grew up. She was a graduate of the North Tarrytown High School and the White Plains Business School. She was employed by the County Trust Company Bank in Tarrytown, where she worked in the Mortgage Department. Before retiring, Eve worked many years for the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns, where she handled benefits and insurance claims.
On September 19, 1940, she married the love of her life, Fred W. Goss, Jr., (former village Fire Chief and Town Supervisor), in the First Reformed Church of North Tarrytown. She was known for her athletic skills. Prior to World War II, she toured the state playing softball with her team, the Foley Farmerettes, where she earned the nickname “Fleet Footed Eve.” She was also and avid bowler, winning many tournaments and trophies.
