Sister Eulalia Villarino, 77

Sr. Eulalia Villarino RSHM died at Marymount Convent, Tarrytown on June 5. She was 77.

A Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 54 years, Sister Eulalia served as teacher and social worker in Rome, Italy; in Bogota, Baranquilla, and Cartagena, Colombia. She was active in the apostolate to mariners in Guayaquil, Ecuador and later through the Seaman’s Institute in New York City. Since 1985, she had been involved in many forms of pastoral ministry at Transfiguration Parish in Tarrytown.

Gifts in her name may be made to the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, 50 Wilson Park Drive, Tarrytown, NY, 10591.

Frederick “Bud” Sellers, 91

Frederick Burton “Bud” Sellers, a former Tarrytown resident, died June 16, just a few days shy of his 92nd birthday, in Sun City West, Arizona, where he lived for the past 30 years.

He and his late wife, Mary Kay, who died in 1993, raised two children in Tarrytown, where they lived from 1950 until 1980. He is survived by his daughter Nancy, of Highland Park, IL and his son Scott and Scott’s wife Mary, of Denver, CO.

Born in Kankakee, Illinois, Mr. Sellers was a summa cum laude Chemical Engineering graduate of the University of Illinois and worked for Texaco Inc. for 44 years, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the Chrysler Building in Manhattan, in Harrison, NY, and at career’s end, spent nearly three years as a Texaco Director and Shareholders’ Representative in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was also an inventor, with 17 U.S. and over 40 foreign patents in his name.

In Tarrytown, Mr. Sellers coached his son’s Little League team, the Redbirds, and was an avid golfer. The family attended the Second Reformed Church where Mr. Sellers served as a deacon and elder. He was well-known for his civic activism, serving two three-year elected terms on the Tarrytowns School Board, during which two elementary schools and a new high school were constructed. He headed the effort that brought Asbury Terrace to fruition.

Mr. Sellers’ award-winning collection of stamps from Haiti and his numerous offices in various philatelic organizations around the globe led to his recognition as a world-class philatelist and judge. Starting his collection at the age of eight, he achieved the highest honors that philately offers, including the Lichtenstein Award in 1976, and the Luff Award in 1983 and again in 1998. He chaired the huge international stamp show, INTERPHIL, in Philadelphia in our bicentennial year, and was presented to the Queen of England when he signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in London in 1986. He was a prodigious contributor to a wide variety of national and international philatelic publications, and received numerous regional, local and international awards.

Lisa Sabour, 43

Lisa Sabour, a longtime resident of Irvington, died May 26 at Phelps Memorial Hospital of colon cancer. She was 43.

She was born August 27, 1966 in North Tarrytown. She was raised in Irvington and returned there to raise her own family. She graduated from Irvington High School and received her B.A. from American University, where she studied art. Mrs. Sabour was passionate about the world and traveled extensively, choosing to live abroad in both Florence and Nice. Those experiences led her to her career in the travel industry.

She was also a talented photographer and added her creative flair to all that she did. She loved spending hours working in her garden, which was a place of joy for her, as well as her friends and family.

Of all her passions, she was most passionate about her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Majid Sabour and her two beautiful children, Kenzy (5) and Leila (3). She is also survived by her parents, Rudolph and Bruna Croese of Sun City Center, FL, who own Rudy’s Beau Rivage; her devoted brother Peter Croese (Antonella) of Croton-on-Hudson; and

her much loved nieces and nephew.

Marie Margotta, 91

Marie A. Margotta, a former Sleepy Hollow resident, died May 24. She was 91.

Born in Brooklyn on May 7, 1919, she was the daughter of John B. and Rose Caputo Margotta. She was a seamstress for the Merle Dress Company in Tarrytown for many years. She most recently resided at the Victoria Home in Ossining.

Nancy Sterino, 91

Nancy Sterino, a former Tarrytown resident, died May 23. She was 91.

She was born in Tarrytown on November 3, 1918 to Salvatore and Jennie Iacono Scribano. She moved to Florida 30 years ago. She was married to Joseph Sterino, who predeceased her on December 19, 1987.

She is survived by her children, Larry Sterino of Tarrytown and Jo Sterino of Safety Harbor, Florida. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Debby Martins of Irvington and David and Dean Sterino, both of Tarrytown, as well as her four grandchildren, Alexis, Justin and Colby Martins and Sean Sterino.

Marjorie Baker, 89

Marjorie V. Baker, a longtime Tarrytown resident, died June 6 at St. Cabrini Home. She was 89.

She worked at the Ardsley Country Club for many years as a floral arranger as well as a personal assistant to the women members of the club.

Chris Wrobel, 22

Chris Wrobel, a resident of Tarrytown, died suddenly June 11. He was 22.

Born July 15, 1987 in Mount Kisco, he was the son of Maria and Kristof Wrobel. He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School for his elementary years. He then went on to attend Stepinac High School and graduated from Irvington High School in 2005. Mr. Wrobel attended SUNY Plattsburgh, where he majored in International Business.

He had a natural entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for snowboarding. He is survived by his mother, Maria, father, Kristof, sister, Diana and dog, Weezy.

William Semple, 81

William F. Semple, a former Tarrytown resident, died peacefully at home June 11 with his family at his side. He was 81.

Born December 3, 1929 in Tarrytown, he was the son of William A. and Ruth O’Leary Semple. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954. He had a long career driving trucks and trailers for McLean Trucking. He was a member of Teamsters Local 445 and he was a life active member of Riverside Hose of the Tarrytown Fire Department.

Elizabeth Yunger Boylan, 91

Elizabeth Yunger Boylan, a former Tarrytown resident who most recently lived in Potomac, Maryland, died June 10. She was 91.

She grew up in North Tarrytown and raised her family in Tarrytown. Her parents, George and Elizabeth Yunger, owned and operated Yunger’s (later Alter’s) Bakery in North Tarrytown for many years. She graduated from St Theresa’s Elementary School in North Tarrytown, North Tarrytown High School and the Washington Secretarial School, New York. She and her family were members of Transfiguration Church in Tarrytown and both her children graduated from Transfiguration School. She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for General Motors and for John Charles, Ltd. in Tarrytown.

Ernest Ferraro, 44

Ernest Ferraro, devoted and loving husband and father, died March 23 of spinal meningitis. He was 44.

Son of Ernest and Beatrice Imperato Ferraro of Irvington, Mr. Ferraro was a graduate of Irvington High School (1983), Villanova University (1987) and Fordham University School of Law (1993). He was a founding partner of the Ferraro & Wyatt law firm of New York City.

His passion for learning led him to many diverse arenas. He was an avid snowboarder, mountain biker and tri-athlete. He became an accomplished woodworker, a technology and gadget “guru”, an enthusiastic chef, and the family’s general “go-to guy”. His passion for life, his good humor, and his deep commitment to his family will be forever missed.

Anne Ortolani, 91

Anne Ortolani, a resident of Tarrytown, died June 11at her residence. She was 91.

She worked in the garment district in New York for Dalma Studios. Fondly known as “Auntie Anne” or “Annie,” she attended college at age 57, receiving her bachelors degree at age 77 from Pace University to a standing ovation. She loved to sew clothing and enjoyed gardening. She was known for sunny disposition and penchant for inspirational proverbs.

Mary O’Hanlon, 56

Mary E. O’Hanlon, a resident of Tarrytown, died May 31. She was 56. She was born in Dublin, Ireland and had been working for Liberty Mutual in Tarrytown prior to her illness.

Paul Wheatley, 79

Paul R. Wheatley, retired president of Beck & Wheatley Insurance in Tarrytown, died June 15 in Tarrytown. He was 79.

Born and raised in Tarrytown, he moved to Naples, Florida upon his retirement in 1993. He graduated from Washington Irving High School and went on to attend St. Lawrence University. In the summer of 1950 he enlisted in the Naval Air Cadet program and subsequently received his commission in the United States Marine Corps. He served his country during the Korean War and retired as a captain from the Marine Corps.

He returned to his native Tarrytown and joined his father as a real estate and insurance broker for the Tarrytown firm, Beck Wheatley, Inc. He became president of Beck & Wheatley in 1972. He was also President of the Lions Club, the Neighborhood House for Seniors and a member of the Vestry and Warden of Christ Episcopal Church. In 1980 he was elected President of the Professional Insurance Agents of New York and additionally served on their national board of directors. In 1986, he was elected to the board of the Tarrytown and North Tarrytown Savings and Loan Association and served on that board until 1998.
