Sleepy Hollow Police Detective on Trial
The trial of a suspended Sleepy Hollow police detective, charged with civil rights violations and witness tampering stemming from two separate incidents in 2006, is underway in federal court in White Plains.
Jose Quinoy, 37, has been suspended without pay since he was indicted in April for allegedly punching and kicking two men after they were restrained and handcuffed. One incident took place October 17, 2006 when Quinoy allegedly fought outside the Sleepy Hollow Police Department with Mario Gomez, 54, who confronted Quinoy about wanting to have a relationship with his then 22-year-old daughter.
Quinoy is also accused of beating Luis Vilches on December 17, 2006 following a personal dispute involving alleged disparaging comments both men made toward relatives.
In addition, Quinoy is facing charges of tampering with Sleepy Hollow Police Officer Michael Hayes, who was wired by the FBI in 2008 to gather evidence against Quinoy.
If convicted, Quinoy, who lives in Tarrytown and has pled not guilty to all the charges, could face a maximum of 30 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
