Community, Family Mourn Loss Of Robin Birrittella

Robin Birrittella is a name that conjures many adjectives: upbeat, enthusiastic, caring, loving, positive, dedicated and nurturing, to name but a few.

A lifelong Tarrytown resident, wife, mother and businesswoman, Birrittella’s involvement in the community covered many areas including her tenure as president of the Washington Irving PTA, her membership in the Transfiguration Church’s Women’s Group and her stellar 18-year career as a real estate broker.

Known for her infectious smile and generous spirit, Birrittella died August 14 at the age of 51 after a long fought battle against cancer.

“I was speechless and broken-hearted when I found out,” said Marcene Hedayati, managing broker at Legends Realty Group LLC where Birrittella worked as a broker and fine home specialist since 2007. “She was well-respected in the community and one of the best brokers ever. Everyone looked up to her and admired her.”

An avid tennis player, Birrittella was a long-time member of the Tarrycrest Swim Club. In the 1990s, she worked on the Village Hall Task Force and later was a member of the Moderate Income Housing Committee. Her dedication to the community was recognized by many, including Tarrytown Mayor Drew Fixell, who worked with her on the Architectural Review Board from 1998 to 2001.

“Robin was a wonderful member of our community, a warm and generous friend to innumerable people and an enthusiastic and effective volunteer in our schools and village,” Fixell said. “She will be greatly missed.”

Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown residents, friends and family showed their love and support during three highly attended wakes at Coffey Funeral Home, as well as at her funeral mass at Transfiguration Church, which was attended by an estimated 800 mourners.

“All of us from the office attended one or several of the wake services and attended the funeral mass, too,” said Hedayati. “It was the most beautiful service and a great testament to the person she was…she touched so many people in our community. All three of her children spoke and did an amazing job.”

Birrittella is survived by her husband Mitchell of 29 years and three children, Mitchell Jr. of Manhattan, Tyler of Tarrytown and Jayne of Manhattan. Tyler Birrittella worked alongside his mother at Legends Realty Group.

“Robin worked almost up to her last days,” Hedayati said. “She always wanted to please her clients and I think in a way she was preparing Tyler to take over for her.”

Birrittella is also survived by her parents, Roger and Patricia Bucci; one sister, Karen Bucci and two brothers, Roger and Jeff Bucci (all Tarrytown residents); and 21 nieces and nephews. One brother, Thomas, predeceased her.

Donations in her memory can be made to the Tarrytown Beautification Foundation, Inc., 56 Neperan Road, Tarrytown, NY 10591.
