Irvington Confident Of Being In Playoff Hunt

After a disappointing 2-5 season a year ago, the Irvington High School varsity football team is gearing up for the 2010 campaign with high hopes.
“We feel if we can stay healthy we can compete for a playoff spot,” said head coach Patsy Costabile, starting his 10th year leading the Bulldogs. “The kids are very determined and hard workers.”
Irvington returns about half of its team from 2009, but only two starters. Leading the offense will be senior quarterback Chris Brennan, who also plays free safety on defense. Playing behind Brennan at halfback will be seniors Mike Morley and Mitch Motush. Morley is also a linebacker and Motush doubles as a strong safety.
Helping to protect Brennan and block for the senior halfbacks will be another senior, guard Tino Valente, who also is a defensive tackle.
Irvington opens its season on Sunday, September 12, hosting Pelham High at 1:30. Its two other home contests are September 25 at 1:30 against Ardsley and October 2 at 1:30 against Nanuet.
